A Markup Language is a system of notation for users writing in a digital document. It differs from programming languages in that it is user-oriented and not computer-oriented, prioritizing organization and simplicity. For example, Wikitext, which is used by wikis across Fandom, is a markup language. "'' ''" is used for italics, "''' '''" is used for bold, and "''''' '''''" is used for both. These rules make up the language of Wikitext and are what separate it from other markup languages.
