Sandboxes let you draft or test code or text in a personal area. You can do just about anything you want in your sandbox. You can practice your HTML/CSS skills, draft an article, experiment with an idea, or do something else.
Sandboxes may be public or personal. Public sandboxes are used by many people, and it's normal for them to be cleared regularly. (Don't put things there unless you're okay with them being deleted anytime.) Personal sandboxes are for one specific user.
On a Fandom wiki, your personal sandbox is at Special:MyPage/Sandbox.
Creating a personal sandbox
Adding a new page
There are two ways to create your sandbox on a wiki.
- Go to Special:MyPage/Sandbox
- Add a new page (see screenshot). Name it
User:Example/Sandbox, substituting in your exact username where it says "Example." For example,User:MissLunaRose/Sandbox
Once you're in your sandbox, you can start playing around.
Example
You can also make other user subpages by replacing the word 'Sandbox' in the page title with another word! This is how guestbooks and other similar pages are created.
Sandbox rules and etiquette
Sandboxes usually don't have to adhere to the same rules that a wiki page does. For example, you often don't have to follow a wiki's style guidelines (if any exist).[1] Still, sandboxes need to be respectful. They usually come with rules like:
- Don't violate copyright laws.[1][2]
- Don't use sandboxes maliciously.[1] For example, things like cyberbullying and racism aren't okay anywhere (including a sandbox).
It's important to respect others' personal sandboxes. For example:
- Don't copy-paste anything from someone else's sandbox without permission. (If you want free code, check Free Designs.)
- Don't edit someone else's sandbox without permission.
- If someone asks you to help with their sandbox code, it's okay to do so. Otherwise, leave it alone.
- Exception: Wiki admin team members might edit a sandbox to remove malicious or copyright-breaking content.
